Top 10 Things Renters Forget to Clean

Your rental bond can be a significant amount of money, and if you are moving somewhere else you are likely going to be short of cash.

Want to Get your Bond Back?

One of the main reasons why people don’t get their bond back immediately is because their previous rental property does not meet the end of lease cleaning standards.

As an end of lease clean is a very though, very, very thorough clean most renters prefer to opt to leave it to the professionals.  If this applies to you and you live in Brisbane, please give i-blast a call as they are professional bond cleaners.

The Top 10 Things Renters Forget to Clean

If you prefer to do the end of lease cleaning yourself, make sure you don’t fall into the trap that so many other renters do – and forget one of the following most often forgot items that renters forget to clean…

  1. The Garden.  Yes the outside of the house too has to be spic and span.  This includes having mowed lawn, clean paths, a spotless pool and no cobwebs…
  2. Empty the Dustbins.  Yes unless garbage removal day is very nearby, you need to take your rubbish with you.  Dustbins not only need to be empty, they also need to be hosed off and in a reasonable condition.
  3. Clean the Flyscreens.  Most people remember to clean the windows and totally forget about the flyscreens.  Flyscreens can get incredibly dirty.  You need to remove the dust and any grime.
  4. Mould.  If you clean the shower you may consider that the job is done.  However if there has been an accumulation of mould since you moved in you need to eradicate all traces of it.
  5. Talking about the shower many, many renters forget to clean the shower curtain.  Sometimes it is actually easier to replace the shower curtain.  Just make sure that the one you buy is of a very similar quality to the one that was there when you moved into the house or unit.
  6. Tracks – the tracks of sliding doors and windows and also flyscreens.  This is a very popular item that get’s forgotten.  Once all the debris and build up of dust is removed from the tracks you will be surprised to see how much easier the windows and doors slide…
  7. Oil and other stains in the garage or on the driveway.  If you car has been leaking oil or if you are a handyman and have caused stains or marks on the concrete floor these have to be removed.  You may need the services of a high pressure hose cleaner (dare I suggest i-blast?) unless you have a good powerful high pressure hose yourself.  Oil stains and the like can be very difficult to remove – sometimes even for a professional high pressure cleaning business… This is probably one of the likely items that renters forget to clean.
  8. Sticky fingermarks – and if you have children they are likely to be all over the place.  Places that people do forget to check include doorknobs, walls and light switches.  Even in a household with just adults you may be surprised to see the amount of dirt that builds up on light switch panels.
  9. Ceiling Fans and Lights.  Yes you need to get out the ladder and remove the dust (and dead insects) from your light fittings and ceiling fans.  Removing the dust is often not really good enough and you may need to wipe down with a clean cloth as well.
  10. Finally you need to look down as well as up.  Skirting boards collect a huge amount of dust and if not dusted regularly this can become grime which needs to be washed off.  So if you haven’t regularly dusted your skirting boards, then in order for the house to be sufficiently clean you will need to firstly dust and secondly wash the skirting boards as well.  For each and every room in the house…
