One of the biggest difficulties with keeping brick pavers looking good is the weeds and other plants that can grow between the pavers. Another challenge in keeping path and driveway pavers clean is that they are susceptible to mould and mildew.
Tips on Cleaning Brick Pavers
Regularly sweeping or blowing your paved path or driveway might sound like a hassle but it will save you time and energy in the long run. By regularly removing leaf and other debris there is less chance of discoloration of your bricks, stains and mildew growth. When removing weeds by hand you need to make sure you pull the roots out as well. Just removing the green leafy part of the plant is not enough, it will look good only for a few days whilst the plant produces stems and leaves once again.
Weed killer should effectively kill your weeds, however your pavers will still look unsightly due to the dead plants so you will need to remove these as well.
Moss and mildew is sometime unavoidable if your brick pavers are on the south side of your home during wet and humid weather. Again it is best if you treat this problem as soon as it occurs rather than leaving it to become a much bigger job to rectify. There are products on the market that have been designed to assist you in sorting out this problem. Follow the instructions on the container, you will find most recommend that you leave the product on the pavers for a certain period of time to soften up the mildew to make it easier and more effective to remove.
High Pressure Cleaning of Pavers
A high pressure cleaner can be extremely effective in sprucing up dirty and mouldy brick areas. Depending on how well your pavers have been laid, it can also be used for areas which have pavers set in sand. If however the gaps between the pavers are very large the pressure cleaner will lift some of the soil or sand between the pavers and this may need an experienced high pressure washer.
